The Burj Khalifa sells several different observation experiences, and the difference between them isn't just how high you go. Picking the wrong one can mean paying twice as much for a view you'd have enjoyed just as much from lower down, or queuing on a crowded deck at sunset when a quieter option was available. This guide compares At the Top and At the Top SKY side by side, explains how prices change through the day, and shows you the best time to go.
Quick answer: At the Top (levels 124 and 125, 452 m) is the best choice for most visitors. It includes the only outdoor terrace open to general visitors, and tickets start from AED 175. At the Top SKY (level 148, 555 m) costs roughly twice as much or more, but it's much quieter and includes refreshments and a host. The best time to go is 30 to 45 minutes before sunset, but that's also the most expensive slot, so book it early.

At the Top: levels 124 and 125
This is the standard Burj Khalifa experience, and the one most visitors choose. You enter from the lower ground floor of Dubai Mall, walk through an exhibition about how the tower was built, then take one of the world's fastest lifts up to level 124 in about a minute.
The deck has floor-to-ceiling glass on all sides, digital telescopes that show daytime and historical views, and an outdoor terrace, the thing most people remember. Standing outside at 452 metres, with the wind moving around you, is a very different feeling from looking through glass. From here you can see the Creek and old Dubai to the north, Sheikh Zayed Road towards the Marina to the west, and the Dubai Fountain directly below.
Level 125 is one floor up, with more viewing space and a gift shop. Some At the Top tickets also include a drink or pastry at the café on the ground level.
At the Top SKY: level 148
SKY takes you to level 148, at 555 metres, through a separate lift and a dedicated check-in. The big difference isn't the extra 100 metres of height; it's the space and calm. Visitor numbers are capped, so even at sunset the deck feels relaxed rather than crowded.
SKY tickets include a host, a lounge area with refreshments and an outdoor viewing deck on level 148, and you also get access to levels 124 and 125 afterwards. Honestly, the view from 555 metres isn't dramatically different from 452 metres. What you're paying for is the experience around it.
SKY earns its price for a special occasion, at sunset, or if crowds really bother you. For a first visit on a normal budget, At the Top gives you 90% of the experience at a fraction of the price.
The Lounge: levels 152 to 154
The Lounge isn't an observation deck; it's a bar and lounge with table service and the highest terrace in the building. You're paying for a seat, a couple of hours and the view from your table, rather than a walk-through visit. It's the most expensive option, reservations are essential, and there's usually a minimum spend. It suits a celebration more than a sightseeing visit.
Burj Khalifa ticket prices and peak hours
Burj Khalifa prices change depending on when you visit, not just which level you choose. The window around sunset, roughly 4pm to 7pm, is "prime" time and costs noticeably more than morning or late-evening slots.
| Ticket | Off-peak slots | Prime slots (around sunset) |
|---|---|---|
| At the Top (124–125) | From AED 175 with DUBEX TOURS | Higher |
| At the Top SKY (148) | Roughly AED 350–400 | Roughly AED 500+ |
| The Lounge (152–154) | The most expensive option, with a minimum spend | |
Prices are approximate and vary by date, time slot and season. Very young children enter free (the free age depends on the ticket type), and children under 16 must be with an adult.
How to save money
- Visit off-peak. Mid-morning and late-evening slots are the cheapest.
- Book in advance. Walk-up prices at the counter are usually higher, and prime slots sell out.
- Choose At the Top over SKY unless the quieter deck really matters to you.

Best time to visit the Burj Khalifa
Sunset: the best and most popular
The hour around sunset gives you the best light and the most memorable views. Book a slot 30 to 45 minutes before sunset, so you're already on the deck when the city turns from gold to lit-up. In winter, these slots can sell out about a week ahead, so book as soon as you know your dates.
Late evening: the underrated choice
Slots after about 9pm are cheaper, the city is fully lit, haze has usually cleared, and the deck is quieter than at sunset. It's a great option if you've missed the sunset slots.
Morning: clearest and quietest
Mid-morning slots are cheap and calm. Winter mornings usually have the clearest air, while summer haze and the shamal winds can reduce visibility later in the day.
The time of year matters too. November to March has the clearest skies; our best time to visit Dubai guide explains the seasons.
Getting there and on the day
- Entrance: the lower ground floor of Dubai Mall, signposted inside the mall.
- Metro: Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station on the Red Line, connected to the mall by a long air-conditioned walkway.
- Arrive 20 to 30 minutes before your slot. There's a security check, and late arrivals can lose their slot.
- Bring photo ID and leave large bags, strollers and sharp items at the luggage counter.
- No tripods or selfie sticks on the decks.
- Dress code: casual clothing is fine. Beachwear isn't allowed.
- Allow 1 to 2 hours for the full visit.
What to do after
Everything you'd want to pair with the tower is within walking distance. After a late-afternoon slot, take the Dubai Fountain lake ride on Burj Lake, directly below the deck you've just visited.
