Some of the best places to visit in Dubai at night for free are also the city's most famous sights: the fountain, the Creek and the skyline cost nothing to look at. What costs money is getting between them, because they're spread across 50 kilometres. This ranked list tells you where to go, where exactly to stand and which metro station to use, and it's honest about which free spots aren't worth the trip. For paid ideas as well, see our 15 things to do in Dubai at night, paid and free.
Quick answer: the 5 best free places in Dubai at night
- The Dubai Fountain: free shows every 30 minutes, 6pm to 11pm.
- Dubai Creek Harbour waterfront: the best free view of the Burj Khalifa skyline.
- Al Seef and the Creek: heritage lanes, lit waterfront and an abra crossing for a dirham or two.
- Dubai Marina Walk and JBR: the city's best evening walk.
- Souk Al Bahar bridge and Burj Park: a better fountain angle than the mall rail.
Last checked: October 2026. Opening hours and show times change for Ramadan, holidays and events, so anything marked "check before you go" is worth confirming on the day.

Places to visit in Dubai at night for free, ranked
1The Dubai Fountain
Why it's number 1: the best free show in the city, every 30 minutes.
Shows run every 30 minutes from 6pm to 11pm, about five minutes each, and every one has different music. The 6pm and 6:30pm shows are the busiest by far, because everyone arrives at sunset.
Where to stand: on the Waterfront Promenade, a few metres left of the main mall exit, where the jets fill the frame. Drawback: no seating, and the rail fills 10–15 minutes before each early show.
Allow 15 to 20 minutes from the metro platform to the lake, because the walk through Dubai Mall is long. Our fountain show timings guide lists every show and viewing spot.
2Dubai Creek Harbour waterfront
Why it's number 2: the best free view of the whole Downtown skyline, Burj Khalifa included, without the crowds.
Creek Harbour is a newer waterfront district on the far bank of Dubai Creek. Its wide promenade looks back across the water to Downtown, so you see the Burj Khalifa standing above the whole skyline instead of craning your neck beneath it. At blue hour, it's one of the best free night views in Dubai.
Where to stand: on the waterfront promenade facing west towards Downtown, with the water in the foreground. Drawback: no metro station yet. From Creek station a taxi costs around AED 22 to 27, and the ferry from Al Jaddaf costs a few dirhams but runs only about every 30 minutes.
Arrive 20 minutes before sunset and stay 30 minutes after. The skyline changes from silhouette to fully lit in that window, and you'll have the photo nobody else on your trip has.
3Al Seef and the abra crossing
Why it's number 3: the most atmospheric evening in Dubai, almost free.
Al Seef's lit wind towers and waterfront cafés are free to wander, and a traditional abra across the Creek to Deira costs a dirham or two in cash. On the Deira side, the Spice and Gold Souks are free to browse until late evening.
Where to stand: on the abra itself, in the seat at the back, for a low view of the lit Creek on both banks. Drawback: abras generally don't take Nol cards, so carry coins or small notes.
The Bur Dubai to Deira Old Souk abra runs until around midnight, so you can cross back late without paying for a taxi.
4Dubai Marina Walk and JBR
Why it's number 4: the best free evening walk in the city.
The promenade runs along the canal past superyachts and lit towers to The Walk at JBR and the beach. It's also the first stop on our evening city tour that stops at the Marina and the Palm. For more nearby, see our guide to the top attractions in Dubai Marina.
Where to stand: on the footbridge near Marina Mall, looking down the canal in both directions. Drawback: JBR gets very crowded and the roads gridlock on Friday and Saturday nights.
Walk it in the direction of Marina Mall to JBR, then take the tram or metro back. You finish at the beach instead of walking back the way you came.
5Souk Al Bahar bridge and Burj Park
Why it's number 5: the fountain from a better angle, without the crush at the mall rail.
The footbridge between Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar crosses the lake, putting the jets and the Burj Khalifa in one frame. It's the classic free photo spot. Burj Park, an open lawn by the lake past the tower, gives you a side-on view with space to sit on the grass, which is much easier with children.
Where to stand: the middle of the bridge for photos; Burj Park for a relaxed show. Drawback: the bridge is narrow and fills fast for the early shows.
Film in landscape. The fountain stretches across the lake, and a vertical video cuts most of it off.
6Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood after dark
Why it's number 6: the quietest free walk in the city, through lanes that show Dubai before the towers.
Al Fahidi is a maze of narrow sand-coloured lanes, wind towers and courtyard houses next to Al Seef. By day it's busy with tour groups; after dark it goes quiet, the lanes are softly lit, and you can hear your own footsteps. It's free to walk at any time, though the small museums and galleries inside close in the evening.
Where to stand: at the lane junctions near the wind towers, looking up, for the lit towers against the night sky. Drawback: most cafés and galleries close earlier than elsewhere in the city, so don't come for dinner late.
Combine it with Al Seef (3): walk the lanes first, then come out onto the Creek for the abra. They're five minutes apart on foot.
7The Palm boardwalk and The Pointe
Why it's number 7: the best free view of Atlantis, lit up across the water.
The Pointe is a waterfront dining strip that looks straight at Atlantis across the water, and the boardwalk along the outer crescent is one of the calmest evening walks in Dubai.
Where to stand: at the water's edge in front of The Pointe, with Atlantis centred. Drawback: the crescent is far longer than it looks on a map, so don't try to walk there from the trunk.
8Souk Madinat Jumeirah
Why it's number 8: lantern-lit lanes, waterways and a view of the Burj Al Arab, free to walk.
Souk Madinat is a traditional-style covered market whose lanes open onto canals and waterside terraces, with the sail of the Burj Al Arab across the water. The hotel closed in April 2026 for an 18-month restoration (reopening expected around October 2027), but its exterior isn't part of the works, so the view is unchanged.
Where to stand: on the waterside terraces at the back of the souk, facing the Burj Al Arab. Drawback: the shops are souvenir-focused and pricey; come for the setting, not the shopping.
The abra rides on Madinat's waterways are paid and aimed at hotel guests. Walking the bridges over the canals gives you almost the same view for free.
9Dubai Water Canal and Tolerance Bridge
Why it's number 9: lit bridges and a long waterside walk most visitors never find.
The Dubai Water Canal links Business Bay to the sea, with a path along both banks that locals use for evening walks and runs. Tolerance Bridge, a curving footbridge, is lit after dark, with the Sheikh Zayed Road towers behind it. The canal waterfall under the Sheikh Zayed Road bridge doesn't publish its operating times, so check before you go if it's your reason to visit.
Where to stand: on the canal path just below Tolerance Bridge, looking up at its curve. Drawback: there's little shade and few cafés along the quieter stretches, and it's too hot to enjoy from June to September.
10Jumeirah Mosque and Jumeirah Public Beach
Why it's number 10: a short but beautiful stop, best combined with something else.
The floodlit domes and minarets of Jumeirah Mosque are free to photograph from outside, and Jumeirah Public Beach is a short walk away. Visits inside the mosque are daytime only (guided sessions Saturday to Thursday at 10am and 2pm, AED 55, according to the mosque's own visit page).
Where to stand: across the road for the full facade. Drawback: it's a 20-minute stop, so not worth a taxi on its own.
11Bluewaters Island promenade
Why it's number 11: a close-up of Ain Dubai and the JBR skyline from the water.
Bluewaters is a small island off JBR, joined by a pedestrian bridge of about 500 metres, with Ain Dubai, one of the world's largest observation wheels, above you. Walking the island and the bridge is free. The wheel itself has opened and closed several times, including a temporary closure in spring 2026, so check aindubai.com if you want to ride it.
Where to stand: halfway across the bridge, looking back at the JBR skyline. Drawback: the island is small and mostly restaurants, so 45 minutes is enough.
12Kite Beach and La Mer
Why it's number 12: a relaxed beach evening with the city at your back.
Both beaches are free, with a long promenade, food trucks and cafés, and La Mer adds street art and a more polished waterfront. They're popular with local families in the evening, so it feels like real Dubai rather than a tourist spot.
Drawback: night swimming is allowed only in designated, lit zones (Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3 and Umm Suqeim 1). Don't swim outside them after dark.
13Business Bay canal promenade
Why it's number 13: pleasant, but only worth it if you're staying nearby.
A tidy waterside walk under lit towers, with views of the Burj Khalifa between the buildings. It's nice for a stroll after dinner if your hotel is in Business Bay. It's not a reason to cross the city.
14City Walk
Why it's number 14: lively and pretty, but more of a shopping street than a sight.
City Walk is an open-air district of shops, restaurants and street-art murals, with fairy lights strung over the lanes in the evening. It's free to walk and photogenic, but honestly overrated as a destination: if you've seen JBR, you've seen a busier version of it.
A free night route: Old Dubai to the fountain
This route links four of the best places to visit in Dubai at night for free using the metro, so it costs only the abra and a metro fare.
- 5:15pm, Al Fahidi lanes (6): start at Al Fahidi station (Green Line) and walk 5 minutes into the neighbourhood.
- 6:00pm, Al Seef at sunset (3): walk 5 minutes to the Creek and along the lit waterfront.
- 6:45pm, abra to Deira and back: a dirham or two each way, a few minutes per crossing.
- 7:30pm, metro to Downtown: Green Line from Al Fahidi to BurJuman, change to the Red Line for Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall. Allow about 30–40 minutes including the walk through the mall.
- 8:30pm, the fountain from the promenade (1): watch one show at the rail.
- 9:00pm, Souk Al Bahar bridge (5): walk 5 minutes to the bridge for a second show and the classic photo.
Sunset is around 6pm in October and about 5:30pm from December to February. Start 30 minutes earlier in winter.
See six of these places in one evening
Honestly, the places on this list are free; what costs time and money is getting between them. The Marina, the Palm, Jumeirah and the Creek are far apart, and taxis add up.
If you have several evenings and like the metro, do these yourself. If you have one evening and want to see six areas, our 4-hour Dubai by night tour with hotel pickup is the shortcut. It stops at the Marina, the Palm, Jumeirah Public Beach, the Creek and Jumeirah Mosque, then gives you 60 minutes at Dubai Mall for the fountain. It costs AED 180 per person in small groups of up to 14, starts at 6pm, 7pm or 8pm, and can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before. Meals, tickets and tips aren't included, and the vehicle isn't wheelchair accessible.
Tips for a free night out in Dubai
The places themselves are free, but getting between them is not. A driver with car for the evening splits across the group and saves the waiting.
- Get a Nol card. The metro, tram and buses need one. A Silver card costs AED 25, including AED 19 of credit, and fares start at AED 3 per journey.
- Know the last trains. The metro usually runs until around midnight, until about 1am on Fridays, and starts later (8am) on Sundays. Check the RTA website or the S'hail app on the day.
- Free parking is rarer than you think. Most street parking in busy areas is paid into the evening, and popular car parks fill on weekends. The metro is usually easier for Downtown, the Marina and Old Dubai.
- Dress modestly in the souks and near mosques. Cover shoulders and knees; malls ask for the same.
- Summer heat doesn't go away at night. From June to September it's often above 30°C at 9pm, so keep walks short and waterside. November to March is ideal; see our guide to the best time to visit Dubai.
- Avoid Friday and Saturday nights at JBR, the fountain and Creek Harbour if you can; weekdays are far calmer.
- Safety: the busy public areas on this list are well lit and stay lively late. Take normal care with valuables in crowds, and swim only in the designated night-swimming zones.
Travelling with children? Our family-friendly activities guide has evening ideas by age. Burj Park and Kite Beach are the easiest free spots with toddlers.
