Dubai Marina is a man-made canal nearly three kilometres long, walled on both sides by residential towers. It is the densest concentration of restaurants, beach and waterfront in the city, and unusually walkable by Dubai standards — which is the main reason to base yourself here.
The best attractions in Dubai Marina
Marina Walk
A seven-kilometre promenade running the length of the canal, lined with cafes and moored yachts. Free, open all hours, and the single best thing about the neighbourhood. Walk it after dark when the towers are lit and the temperature drops.
Ain Dubai and Bluewaters Island
The observation wheel on Bluewaters, reached by a footbridge from JBR. Even when the wheel is not operating, Bluewaters is worth the walk for the view back across to the Marina skyline.
The Beach at JBR
An open-air retail and dining strip running directly onto a public beach. Free access, showers and changing facilities, and a genuinely good stretch of sand. Busiest on Friday and Saturday afternoons.
Dubai Harbour
The newer cruise and marina development at the southern end, home to Dubai Lighthouse and the departure point for many boat trips.
Skydive Dubai
The drop zone over the Palm launches from here. Even if you are not jumping, the landing area is a spectacle on a clear morning.
Getting on the water in Dubai Marina
The Marina is defined by its water, and seeing it from the canal is different from walking beside it.
- Shared dinner cruise — a three-hour mega yacht dinner cruise covers the canal and out past Bluewaters with a buffet. Fixed departure, fixed price.
- Private charter — a private yacht hire is priced by the hour for the whole boat, so for six or more people the cost per head falls below a shared cruise.
- Public ferry — the RTA ferry runs from Dubai Marina and is dramatically cheaper than any tour, if you only want the view.

Eating and shopping
Marina Walk and The Walk at JBR carry most of the restaurants, ranging from shawarma counters to fine dining on the water. Dubai Marina Mall is compact and easy compared with the city's megamalls — useful if you want a quick errand rather than a day out.
Where Dubai Marina falls short
Being honest about this helps you plan around it:
- It is a long way from Downtown and old Dubai — 30 to 45 minutes in normal traffic.
- The one-way road system around the towers confuses drivers and taxi drop-offs.
- Parking is genuinely difficult at weekends.
- There is almost no historic or cultural content here; it is a new development and reads like one.
