1Marina Walk
The promenade runs along both banks of the canal, about 7 kilometres if you walk the full loop. It's lined with cafés, restaurants and moored superyachts, and the towers rise straight up from the water on both sides. Most visitors only see the busy stretch by Dubai Marina Mall; keep walking along the canal and it gets quieter, with wider views across the water.
It's free, open at all hours and at its best after dark, when the towers are lit and the air is cooler. It's also the first stop on our evening city tour with a Marina Walk stop, if you're staying elsewhere in Dubai.
Start at Dubai Marina Mall and walk towards JBR. You finish at the beach and the tram, instead of walking all the way back.
2The Walk and The Beach at JBR
Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) is the beachfront side of the Marina. The Walk is a street of shops and restaurants behind the sand, and The Beach is an open-air strip of cafés and play areas facing a free public beach with showers and changing rooms. In cooler months it's one of the best places in Dubai for a beach afternoon that turns into dinner.
Friday and Saturday afternoons are crowded and the roads around JBR gridlock. Come on a weekday, or arrive before 3pm at weekends.
3Bluewaters Island
A small island off JBR, joined by a pedestrian bridge of about 500 metres. The island is mostly restaurants, but the reason to go is the view back across the water at the JBR and Marina towers, which you can't get from inside the Marina.
Stop halfway across the bridge at sunset. The JBR skyline turns gold, then lights up, in about 20 minutes.
4Ain Dubai
Is Ain Dubai open? The giant observation wheel on Bluewaters reopened in December 2024 after a long closure, with tickets from AED 145 for a shared cabin. It has had temporary closures since, including during spring 2026, so check its official website before you plan around it. A rotation lasts about 38 minutes.
Honest verdict: pleasant, but the view is mostly of the Marina and the sea. If you've already been up the Burj Khalifa, the walk on Bluewaters gives you the wheel as a backdrop for free.
5The Dubai Marina dinner cruise
A multi-deck mega yacht sails the length of the canal, then out past Bluewaters and the JBR skyline, while you eat an international buffet. 6A private yacht charter

7Cayan Tower
The 307-metre residential tower that twists through 90 degrees from bottom to top is the Marina's most recognisable building. It's a private residence, so you can't go up, but it's the best single photograph in the Marina.
Stand across the water on the opposite bank of the canal and shoot upwards at blue hour, so the twist and the lit floors fill the frame.
8Dubai Marina Mall and Pier 7
A compact, easy mall for a coffee, a pharmacy run or an hour out of the heat. Next door, Pier 7 is a round tower with a different restaurant on each floor, many with terraces looking straight down the canal.
Honest verdict: not a destination in itself; use it as a base or for dinner with a view.
9The RTA water taxi and Dubai Ferry
The cheapest way onto the water. Water taxis run short hops within the Marina and across to Bluewaters, and the Dubai Ferry runs longer routes from Marina Mall, including towards the Palm and Atlantis. The last fares we found were about AED 7 for a water taxi hop and AED 25 to AED 50 for ferry routes, but they date from late 2024, so check the current timetable and fares on the RTA website before you go.
10Dubai Harbour
A newer cruise-terminal and marina development on the coast beside the Marina, where many private yachts and boat trips depart. The waterfront is quieter than JBR, with open views of the Palm.
11Skydive Dubai (Palm drop zone)
Skydive Dubai's Palm drop zone sits on the coast between the Marina and the Palm, and tandem jumps freefall over the Palm Jumeirah. It's the most expensive thing on this list, and it's weather-dependent and booked well ahead. Jumpers must be 18 to 69 and within the weight and BMI limits. On clear mornings you can often see the canopies coming in from the Marina side. Whether spectators can watch from the drop zone itself varies, so check before you go.

12XLine zipline
A 1-kilometre zipline from 170 metres up between Marina towers, reaching up to 80 km/h. Riders must be 12 to 65, weigh 45 to 100 kg and be at least 130 cm tall. It runs in morning and afternoon slots and can close for wind, so check that it's operating on your date.
13Water sports at JBR
Licensed operators on JBR beach offer jet skis, parasailing, paddleboards and banana boats. Prices vary a lot by operator and season, so compare a few and use a licensed operator with life jackets and a safety briefing. Mornings have the calmest water.

The Marina is at its best after dark. By day the towers can feel like a wall of glass and the promenade is hot; after sunset the canal becomes a corridor of light, the air cools, and the terraces fill.
The best night viewpoints
- The footbridge near Dubai Marina Mall: look down the canal in both directions for the classic reflection shot.
- The opposite bank from Cayan Tower: the twisted tower, lit floor by floor, with the water in the foreground.
- Halfway across the Bluewaters bridge: the whole JBR skyline from the sea side.

Eating and shopping
Marina Walk and The Walk at JBR hold most of the restaurants, from shawarma counters and cafés to waterfront fine dining. Pier 7 stacks seven restaurants with canal views into one tower, and The Beach at JBR has the most family-friendly options. For shopping, Dubai Marina Mall covers the basics; for a full shopping day, you're better off at Mall of the Emirates, a short metro ride away.

Where Dubai Marina falls short
- It's far from everything else. Downtown and Old Dubai are 30 to 45 minutes away in normal traffic, and longer at rush hour.
- Driving is confusing. One-way roads and tower drop-offs confuse taxi drivers, and weekend parking is very hard to find.
- There's no history. The Marina is a 21st-century development and feels like one; there's nothing old here to see.
- Midday in summer is miserable. The glass and the water make it feel hotter than inland.
