A dinner cruise is one of the easiest evenings to book in Dubai: you board, the boat sails, dinner is served, and the city lights do the rest. The first decision is the hardest, though: Dubai Marina or Dubai Creek? They're two completely different evenings. The Marina gives you glass towers, superyachts and the open sea, and the Creek gives you old Dubai, souks and wooden dhows. This guide compares the two side by side on price, route, food, boats and who each one suits, so you can book the right one first time.
Quick answer: Choose the Dubai Marina cruise for skyline views, a more modern evening and bigger boats. Expect to pay from around AED 120 to 150 for a dhow, and a mega yacht dinner cruise with DUBEX TOURS costs from AED 149. Choose the Dubai Creek cruise for heritage, a quieter atmosphere and the lowest prices, with many sailings at around AED 50 to 120. Both last about 2 to 3 hours in the evening, with a buffet dinner, soft drinks and a tanoura dance show.

The Dubai Marina dinner cruise
Dubai Marina is a man-made canal, around three kilometres long, lined on both sides with residential towers. At night, when every tower is lit, it's one of the most striking skylines in the city, and seeing it from the water is very different from seeing it from Marina Walk.
A typical Marina dinner cruise sails the length of the canal, past Marina Mall and the superyacht berths. Larger boats then head out through the Marina mouth towards Bluewaters Island and the giant Ain Dubai wheel, with JBR and the Palm Jumeirah shoreline on the horizon, before turning back into the lit-up canal. Some smaller dhows stay inside the Marina for the whole trip, so check the route if the open-sea stretch matters to you.
The Marina is where you'll find the widest choice of boats, from traditional dhows to multi-deck mega yachts. On the Marina mega yacht dinner cruise we sell, you get three hours on board, an international buffet, unlimited soft drinks, tea and coffee, live entertainment, and a choice between the open upper deck and the air-conditioned lower deck.

See the cruiseThe downsides: The Marina is busier and louder, and it costs more than a basic Creek dhow. On a cheap Marina dhow you're paying partly for the location, so the food may be no better than on the Creek. That's why it's worth choosing a better boat here.
The Dubai Creek dhow cruise
Dubai Creek is where the city began. Long before the towers, this saltwater inlet was a trading port, and wooden dhows still load cargo on its banks today. A Creek dinner cruise takes you back to that older Dubai.
Most Creek cruises board on the Deira side, along Baniyas Road, or on the Bur Dubai side near Al Seef. The route passes the spice and gold souks, the wind towers of Al Fahidi, the old Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House and the heritage area of Al Shindagha. Many cruises also sail towards the curved arch of the Infinity Bridge at the mouth of the Creek. Instead of glass towers, you see lit-up souks, mosques and the old waterfront.
The Creek is also the cheapest dinner cruise in Dubai. Some operators run promotional fares below AED 50, while a standard Creek dinner cruise is often around AED 70 to 120. Almost all Creek cruises use traditional wooden dhows with an air-conditioned lower deck and an open upper deck.
The downsides: The food on budget Creek dhows is usually simple, several boats often sail at the same time, and it's less of a "wow" evening than the Marina. If you've never seen old Dubai, though, it's the more interesting cruise.
You don't need a dinner cruise to see the Creek. A public abra across the Creek costs only a few dirhams and takes a few minutes. Many visitors see the Creek by day, on foot or on a private Dubai city tour, and save their dinner cruise for the Marina skyline at night.
Dhow, mega yacht or glass boat?
The boat matters as much as the location. These are the three main types you'll see on both waterways:
Wooden dhow
A traditional wooden boat with two decks. It has the most character and is the cheapest, but the decks can feel crowded and the dining room is basic.
Mega yacht
A large modern boat with several decks, more seating, bigger buffets and a stage for entertainment. It's more stable and comfortable, and these are found mostly in the Marina.
Glass-topped boat
A smaller luxury boat with a glass roof, a set menu and table service. It's the most expensive option and better suited to couples than families.
Food, drinks and entertainment
On most cruises, in both the Marina and the Creek, the evening follows the same pattern: you board, the boat sets off, and the buffet opens after a short sail. Expect Arabic mezze, salads, grilled meats and fish, rice dishes and desserts. Vegetarian options are always available, and the meat is halal on almost every cruise.
- Drinks: soft drinks and water are usually included. Larger Marina boats often sell alcohol at the bar, but most budget Creek dhows don't serve it at all. If it matters to you, check before booking.
- Entertainment: the classic show is the tanoura dance, an Egyptian folk dance in which the performer spins in a colourful layered skirt. Some boats add live music, a magician or a puppet show. Marina boats tend to be louder and livelier; the Creek is usually more relaxed.
- Food quality: this is where price shows most. A cheap Creek dhow will feed you; a mega yacht or premium boat gives you more choice, better presentation and a live station.
Prices compared
| Option | Typical price | Duration | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Creek dhow (budget) | About AED 40–70 | About 2 hours | Buffet, soft drinks, tanoura show |
| Creek dhow (standard) | About AED 70–120 | About 2 hours | Better buffet and a less crowded deck |
| Marina dhow | About AED 120–150 | About 2 hours | Buffet, soft drinks, skyline views |
| Marina mega yacht | From AED 149 with DUBEX TOURS | About 3 hours | International buffet, unlimited soft drinks, tea and coffee, live entertainment |
| Premium or glass-topped boat | Around AED 300 and up | About 2–3 hours | Set menu, table service, quieter atmosphere |
| Private yacht | From AED 380 per hour, per group | Usually 2–4 hours | The whole boat for your group, with your own route |
Hotel transfers are usually extra on both cruises. Very young children often travel free (usually under 3 or under 4, depending on the operator). Weekend and holiday sailings can cost more.
Which cruise should you choose?
Marina
If you only do one cruise, choose the Marina. The skyline at night is the view most people picture when they think of Dubai.
Creek
The cheapest way to get dinner, a show and a boat ride in one evening.
Marina mega yacht or premium boat
More space, a better buffet and an upper deck under the lights.
Creek
Souks, wind towers and working dhows. It shows you the Dubai that existed before the towers.
Marina mega yacht
A bigger, steadier boat with room for children to move around, and an air-conditioned deck when they need a break.
Private yacht
For birthdays and groups of 10 or more, a private yacht rental can work out at a similar price per person, with the whole boat to yourselves (catering is extra).
For most visitors, the Marina is the better dinner cruise, and the boat matters more than the price difference. A mega yacht in the Marina costs little more than a basic dhow, and the evening is noticeably better. Pick the Creek if you're on a tight budget or you want the heritage side of Dubai, and see the Creek by day if you can.
Getting there
- Dubai Marina: take the Metro Red Line to DMCC or Sobha Realty station, or the Dubai Tram to a Marina stop, then walk to Marina Walk. Your booking confirmation will give you the exact boarding point. If you're coming from the airport and staying in the Marina, see our DXB to Dubai Marina transfer guide.
- Dubai Creek: take the Metro Green Line to Al Ras or Baniyas Square for the Deira side, or walk from the Al Fahidi area for the Bur Dubai side. Creek boarding points are spread along both banks, so check the location on your ticket carefully.
- Hotel pickup: available as an add-on on most cruises, including ours. It's worth it if you're staying far from the boarding point, because taxis can be hard to find when several boats come back at the same time.
Tips before you book
- Arrive 30 minutes early. Boarding usually opens 30 minutes before departure, and the best upper-deck seats go first.
- Check what's included. Is it a buffet or a set menu? Are soft drinks unlimited? Is a transfer included? The cheapest price often leaves something out.
- Book early for weekends. Thursday to Saturday sailings and winter evenings sell out first.
- Bring a light layer from December to February. The upper deck gets breezy once the boat is moving.
- Don't worry about seasickness. Both the Marina and the Creek are sheltered water, and the short open-sea stretch on Marina cruises is usually calm.
- Dress smart casual. Avoid swimwear and very revealing clothing; flat shoes are easier on deck.
