Dubai Airport to Your Hotel: Every Option (2026)

How do I get from Dubai airport to my hotel? It's the first question almost every visitor asks, and the honest answer depends on three things: how much luggage you have, how many of you there are, and what time you land. Dubai International (DXB) is unusually close to the city, so most hotels are 15 to 45 minutes away by road, and you have four real options: the metro, a taxi, a ride-hailing app or a pre-booked private transfer. This guide compares them all, area by area, with real prices, so you can choose before you land.

First: are you landing at DXB or DWC?

Dubai has two international airports, about an hour's drive apart. Dubai International (DXB) in Garhoud handles Emirates, flydubai and most international airlines, and it's close to the city. Al Maktoum International (DWC) in Dubai South mostly handles low-cost, charter and seasonal flights, and it's about 50 km from Downtown, with no metro station.

How do I get from Dubai airport to my hotel? Every option compared

The metro

The Red Line stops at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, and runs straight through Deira, Downtown (Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station), Al Barsha (Mall of the Emirates) and Dubai Marina without changing trains. You need a Nol card: a Silver card costs AED 25, including AED 19 of credit, and fares start from AED 3. Each passenger can bring two bags: one large suitcase up to 81 × 58 × 30 cm and one small bag up to 55 × 38 × 20 cm. Terminal 2 has no metro station.

Honestly, for a solo traveller with a carry-on, the metro is the best value in Dubai. With big suitcases, children or a hotel more than a short walk from a station, it's not worth the effort.

Airport taxis

Licensed Dubai Taxi cabs wait at the ranks outside arrivals in every terminal, 24 hours a day. Airport taxis start at AED 25 and then charge by distance, at roughly AED 2.4 to 2.6 per kilometre, plus Salik toll charges if your route passes a toll gate. The meter is always used, and most cabs accept cards.

Uber, Careem and Bolt

Ride-hailing apps work at DXB and pick up from marked zones near each terminal's car park. At Terminal 3, for example, Uber's pickup points are on Level 1 and Level 3 of the car park, reached from Exit 2. Prices are similar to a taxi but rise when several flights land at once, and you'll wait a few minutes for the car to reach you.

Private transfer

With a pre-booked private airport transfer with meet and greet, your driver waits inside arrivals with a name board, tracks your flight and helps with your luggage. You pay a fixed price agreed in advance, with no meter and no surge. It costs more than a taxi for one or two people, so it makes most sense for families, groups, late arrivals and anyone who doesn't want to queue after a long flight.

What a Dubai airport transfer costs

A private Dubai airport transfer is priced per vehicle, not per person, so the more of you there are, the better the value. Ours start from AED 240 from DXB to anywhere in Dubai, from AED 210 from Al Maktoum (DWC), and from AED 500 from DXB to Ras Al Khaimah, with vans and minibuses quoted for larger groups. Fuel, tolls, parking and waiting time are included. For two people going to Deira or Downtown, a taxi is cheaper; for a family of four going to the Palm or the Marina, the difference is small, and you skip the queue.

Dubai airport to your hotel by area

Fares below are estimates for an airport taxi in normal traffic, based on the AED 25 starting fare plus the per-kilometre rate and typical tolls. Allow extra time on weekday evenings (5pm to 8pm) and Friday nights.

Deira and Bur Dubai

The closest areas to the airport. A taxi is cheap, and the metro works well for hotels near Union, Al Rigga or Baniyas Square stations. For Bur Dubai, change from the Red Line to the Green Line at BurJuman, or take a taxi.

Dubai Creek Harbour and Festival City

Very close to DXB by road, but neither has a convenient metro station from the airport. A taxi takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

Downtown and Business Bay

The Red Line runs from the airport to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall and Business Bay without changing trains, but the walk from those stations to many hotels is long and hot. With luggage, a taxi is usually the better choice.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

The beach hotels sit along Jumeirah Road, a long way from the metro on Sheikh Zayed Road. Take a taxi or a transfer.

Al Barsha

If your hotel is around Mall of the Emirates, the metro is realistic: Mall of the Emirates station is on the Red Line. Further into Al Barsha, take a taxi.

Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC)

There's no metro station in JVC, and the internal roads are confusing for new drivers. A taxi or a pre-booked transfer with the exact address is easiest.

Palm Jumeirah

Hotels on the Palm are a long way from the metro, and those at the far end of the crescent add extra time. A taxi or transfer straight to the door is the only sensible option with luggage.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Staying in another emirate?

Step by step: from the plane to your hotel door

1. Immigration

   Citizens of around 49 countries, including the UK, US, Canada, Australia and most of the EU, can stay up to 90 days within 180 days without arranging a visa in advance, free of charge. Other nationalities have different rules, so check your passport's status before you travel. Some passengers can use the smart gates; everyone else queues at the passport desks.

2. Baggage claim

   Screens in the hall show your belt. At Terminal 3, baggage claim can take a while for large flights, so this is a good moment to set up your phone.

3. Customs

   Walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare. Check the UAE's customs rules for medicines before you travel, as some common prescription drugs need approval.

4. SIM, eSIM and cash

   Mobile network kiosks in arrivals sell tourist SIM cards and eSIMs, and there are ATMs and exchange counters. Take out a small amount of cash for tips and small purchases; taxis and most shops accept cards.

5. Find your ride

   Taxi: follow the signs to the taxi rank outside arrivals. Ride-hailing: follow the in-app directions to the car park pickup zone (at Terminal 3, Exit 2 to the car park). Metro: follow the signs from arrivals to the Red Line station at Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, and buy a Nol card at the machines or ticket office. Private transfer: your driver waits in the arrivals hall holding a name board.

6. Check in

   Most Dubai hotels check in at around 3pm. If you land in the morning, ask the hotel in advance about early check-in or leaving your bags.

Some flydubai flights use Terminal 3 instead of Terminal 2, so check your booking. A free shuttle bus links the terminals.

Arriving late at night

Does my hotel offer a free airport shuttle?

Most Dubai hotels don't. Because the airport is so close and taxis are plentiful, few city hotels run a free shuttle. Some airport-area hotels and some resorts offer pickups, but they're often paid, run only at set times or are available only on certain room rates.

The best way to find out is to email or message your hotel before you travel and ask three things: is there a free shuttle, what times does it run, and where does it pick up? If the answer is "paid transfer", compare the price with a taxi or a private transfer; hotel cars are often the most expensive option.

Booking checklist and common mistakes

Common mistakes

• Booking the wrong airport. DXB and DWC are about an hour apart.
• Assuming the metro runs all night. It doesn't, and it starts later on Sundays.
• Taking the metro with too much luggage. The limit is two bags per person.
• Accepting a lift from someone in the terminal. Use the official taxi rank, your app or a pre-booked driver.
• Underestimating rush hour. Sheikh Zayed Road can double journey times on weekday evenings and Friday nights.
• Arriving at the airport late for your flight home. Allow three hours for international departures.

Going back to the airport

For the return Dubai airport transfer, allow plenty of time: aim to be at the terminal three hours before an international flight, and add 20 to 30 minutes if you're leaving from the Marina, the Palm or JVC at rush hour. Taxis are easy to get from hotels at any hour, including before dawn, but a booked car removes the worry for very early flights. Check whether your airline flies from Terminal 1, 2 or 3 before you set off, as the drop-off points are far apart.
